The European Union Launches the Post-2030 Climate Policy Process

The European Commission has formally initiated the process that will define the climate and energy policy framework for the period beyond 2030.

The discussion concerns several key elements of the European regulatory architecture, including:

  • The potential use of international carbon credits

  • The review of national climate targets

  • The evolution of the Effort Sharing and LULUCF frameworks

  • The pathway toward climate neutrality by 2050

Two public consultations have been opened to collect contributions from institutions, businesses, universities, and civil society.

The Context of the European University Festival 2026

The European University Festival 2026, dedicated to the theme “Europe and Climate Change,” takes note of these ongoing European processes and provides an academic and cultural platform for dialogue.

Through the University Climate Manifesto and the presentation of academic projects in the fields of science, arts, and sustainability, the Festival aims to facilitate discussion among universities, institutions, and stakeholders.

The Festival does not take policy positions but encourages evidence-based dialogue and academic contribution within the broader European framework.
